Winter Nights – A Poem

Darkness all around me,

Wind howling in despair.

Ferocious beasts are sleeping

Deep within their lair.

A rat is trapped beneath a rock,

Its shrieking fills the air.

An owl swoops down and snatches it,

But no-one seems to care.

I sit by the hearth

In a soft cushioned chair,

With a book in hand

`bout a shadow black mare.

Although drops of water

Drip down from my hair,

And though sun’s not shining,

I’m at peace, I don’t care.

Author’s Note: This was my very first piece of writing. I was very proud of it at the time, and still enjoy it actually, so I thought I’ll share it. Tell me what you think!
